[ It was a long night, but far from the longest she's experienced. The world will always be cruel and cold, there was no denying that. Yet... somehow, the immortal allowed herself to believe that these moments of "justice" still meant something. Jason Todd's done the impossible: garnered the loyalty of a witch and the willingness to intervene in a world that doesn't interest her.

She wants a shower, wants to lounge around and order something for dinner but she can't. Not yet. She took the long way on their exit plan for the evening, covering a few more blocks than Jason would have after the shit hit the fan. It wasn't as clean of a job as her confidant would have liked, but this was her third time wearing the oversized crimson helmet.

Jason beats her back to their hideout, even the rolling storm nipping at her heels doesn't light a fire under her. By the time she appears, his spare helmet drapes carelessly against her palms. The witch was left standing in the shadows, golden eyes full of annoyance. ]

Could you not wait a moment longer? Their attention was on me. Do it again and you'll grow uninteresting.

[ A idle threat, one with no bite to it. If there was anything that was clear, it was C.C. kept her attention on this man. Jason Todd didn't have anything to prove to the world, but she makes it easier to help him send messages. A thank you and glimpse of loyalty for what he's offered her in return. ]

Or simply ask me to stay here while you run around the city. It makes no difference to me.

[ A quick toss throws the red helmet his way, showing a playful side as much as her apathetic and dry wit. ]

[ It has been reported for decades that near-death experiences can be a diverse reaction. Some claim to see nothing but light. Some claim to replay the major moments in their life on repeat. Others? Claim to see angels parting the heavens, a salvation to deliver news that their time was not yet here.

It was not the first time one of her patients made the comparison – she had heard it multiple times during her career, but Angela didn't like it. There was no divine intervention here, no holy significance. It was science. Science that allowed her to practice medicine, join an organization that seemingly wanted to make the world a better place, and keep those in good health alive for one more day. It brought her to cross paths with someone that would leave a mark... that would show fleeting faith was not what would save someone.( more underneath )

[ The Magistrate held Gotham City in a tighter chokehold than any before it. Where Gotham has seen corruption swell in the ranks of its police before, ameliorated only by the interventions of Batman in his early career, the city has seen the entrenchment of a more dedicated police state in recent years. The gerrymandering towards the interests of politicians acting as puppets for the Magistrate, in a more clandestine and concerted effort than even the Court of Owls had ever mounted, divided the city. Swayed public opinion to favor and rationalize the excessive force of the police, who then could dispense gratuitous violence upon Gotham's citizens with impunity. Every little thing was micromanaged, the slightest mistake punished with the severity of a Special Tribunal.

This couldn't have happened at a worse time. Justice League personnel were either missing or scattered, mired in turmoils of their own. Though Bruce had a plan in motion and was ready to execute it against the Magistrate, he had suddenly vanished. As time passed, it was becoming increasingly plausible to just presume that Batman was dead. But Bruce has pulled a disappearing act before, lost in time thanks to Darkseid's omega beam, only to restore himself to the present. Dick wants to believe Bruce is still out there, biding his time with some miracle he's preparing-- something to put an end to the Magistrate's impositions of martial law. Though the Magistrate represents a larger tide of authoritarian power moves across the globe, Dick sees a chance here to flip hegemony's chessboard.

Because he can't wait for Bruce. He can't hold out for something not guaranteed.

Nightwing has to act.

It had to be ninjas. No weird otherworldly aliens. No crazy Nazi zombies.

[ They were such a headache. At least the other ones were what they were on the tin: ninjas were lurking in shadows, blending in for their own espionage. Felicia was pissed she abandoned her evening, where glitz and glamour of the New York Elite allowed her to move through the crowds while she tried to hunt down a sold painting her Father once owned. When she gets a text, it takes her a bit to stop and read it.

Her ex.

It's always her ex, and she would move the whole damn island to help him.

God, she needed to get a blind date. ]

[ Peter makes it clear what's going on: Matt's favorite body part, the Hand, seems to have some operation in Brooklyn under the guise of a construction demolition. Blahblah, something about an ancient relic and unless Felicia can appraise it? The morally grey former thief isn't too concerned with the repercussions, right? ...That's what she keeps telling herself as she reads more of Peter's messages for her. No one knows the area like Felicia, no one knows infiltration like Felicia. There's reasons he reaches out – it's business, and she was a fool for always tying the personal side back to it.

Her cocktail dress was gone before the elevator reached the rooftop, replacing it for leather and fur easily and gave her the freedom to scale the rooftop like a cat out on the prowl. It wasn't a record to get to him – he wasn't on death's door or anything, so by the time she sees a crouched form on the building south of the construction, she had time to stop for her supplies.

A ceremonious toss slams her bag into the ground next to him and Felicia makes herself known in the most typical way possible – a damn crawl on the ledge down to him. ]

One day you'll send me a text asking me for a coffee date instead of getting my hands dirty with Daredevil business.

[ But.. that's the thing about Peter that Felicia grew to love – far past her own infatuation with a masked arachnid. He cares about his friends, would die for them, and this was no different. Bitterly, she wonders if he'd still go to this length for her? If she was an insecure 20-something again, she'd think not. But, there's fondness in her eyes and a small, cocky smirk. ]
